Overview
The LH & FSH (Bloodspot) test measures luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from a dried bloodspot sample. These hormones are produced by the pituitary gland and play a central role in regulating ovarian and testicular function, including ovulation, sperm production and sex hormone synthesis.
Measuring LH and FSH together allows practitioners to observe patterns of pituitary signalling within the reproductive hormone axis. The relative levels and balance between these hormones can provide useful context when exploring menstrual cycle changes, fertility concerns or life-stage transitions such as menopause.
Practitioners typically interpret results alongside clinical history, menstrual or reproductive history, age, symptoms and other hormone markers. Results are reviewed in context to support informed discussions with clients.
