Overview
The Female/Male Saliva Profile III measures free, biologically active steroid hormones using saliva samples. The panel includes oestradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol measured at four time points across the day to assess diurnal patterns. Saliva sampling reflects the unbound fraction of hormones available to tissues at the time of collection.
This approach may be clinically useful when practitioners want insight into tissue-level hormone exposure rather than total circulating hormone levels. Measuring multiple sex hormones alongside diurnal cortisol allows patterns related to energy, mood, stress response and hormonal balance to be viewed together, particularly where topical or transdermal hormones are used.
Practitioners typically interpret results alongside symptom history, timing of sample collection, medication or hormone use, lifestyle factors and other laboratory findings. Attention is given to daily rhythm and individual context when reviewing patterns with clients.
